Thoughtful Poetry by Omoregie Lawrence

I’m very happy to introduce you to a wonderful poet named Omoregie Lawrence, who lives in Nigeria.  His work is not only thought-provoking but also evokes strong visualization and emotion.  What captured my attention was his honesty and his strength.    I’m sure you will enjoy his work as much as I do!

Alone

The words sit on the tongue like ash
after the fire has already taken everything.
When the night presses heavy on the chest,
there is no voice on the other end of the line,
no hand reaching through the dark.
Just silence answering silence.

Trials come wearing familiar faces—
bills that multiply like weeds,
a body that betrays with sudden pain,
memories that cut deeper on lonely anniversaries.
Others speak of leaning, of shoulders and shared tears.
I stand upright alone,
spine aching from the constant effort
of pretending the weight is not crushing me.

There is a special exhaustion
in carrying every burden solo.
No one to say “I’m here” when the ground shifts.
No one to witness the small victories
or the quiet collapses behind closed doors.
The laughter I force feels borrowed,
the strength I show is borrowed too—
a performance for an empty audience.

Living like this reshapes the days.
Food tastes thinner.
Streets feel wider.
Every decision lands with doubled gravity—
no buffer, no second opinion,
only the echo of my own footsteps
walking through the ruins and the rebuilding.

I’ve got no one.

And still the world expects me to rise,
to smile, to keep moving as if the absence
does not hollow out the center of me.
Some nights I whisper the truth to the walls:
this is too heavy for one pair of hands.
This loneliness is not noble—
it is brutal, bone-deep, unrelenting.

Yet in the raw center of it,
a stubborn thing still beats—
a heart that has learned to hold its own fractures.
I keep going,
not because it is easy,
but because there is no other choice.

I’ve got no one.
And somehow,
I still carry on.
